Buying a pet is a big step and there are many things you must look at before taking the step of bringing one home.
Some things you must look at are:
Do you have any experience with the type of pet you are wanting to buy.
If not have you researched them on the Internet or read a book about their needs.
Do you have the room for the type of pet you want? For example you would not be able to keep a Great Dane in a small one bed-roomed flat.
Do you have the time and ability to walk a dog daily.
Puppies and kittens can be quite destructive, scratching furniture, messing on carpets, climbing walls, and chewing are just a few things you will have to put up with. Can you cope with this?
Some dogs need to be dominated to keep them in check are you a strong minded person. tip: (some people, companies will laugh at this now) watch the Dog Whisperer on TV to see what we mean by dominate, a lot of tips can be-gotten from this program.
With most types of pets the cost does not stop at buying it. You will have to have them vaccinated, wormed, chipped, de-flead, buy beds, toys and food all this costs money and cannot be put off until next month.
If you still want a pet after reading the above where do you get it from?
Do you have friends or family with the same breed?
Where did they get it from?
When buying a puppy or kitten always see the mother or both parents is even better.
Never buy a pet in a car park, always go to the advertisers home/kennels/cattery/stables.
Look at the health of the animal.
Does it look healthy, is it playful ?
Look at the conditions it is kept in.
Is it clean and the premises well kept.
Are you 100% happy with the conditions.
If not do not buy.
Do not buy an animal because you feel sorry for it.
Puppy Farms are becoming a problem in the UK and are money orientated. Puppies are in great demand and unscrupulous dealers based abroad and in the UK are making large sums of money selling pets that are most of the time unhealthy and disease ridden.
If you think that the condition of the animal you have viewed is terrible or the conditions they are kept in are dirty or disgraceful then report them to the RSPCA, if the advert you replied to was on our site then report it to us also with a link to the ad if possible. So we can after investigation remove the ad from our site.
99% of breeders are very skilled at breeding and rearing healthy quality animals that will make fantastic family pets but just be aware that buying in car parks or in a secluded meeting place is not only dodgy but unsafe for you.
We hope the above info has helped you.
